The machine worked in October. In April it will not start.
Every garden machine fails in the same season, for a short list of reasons. Find what the fault means, which part replaces it, and what you need on the bench before you open anything.
Replace the machine, or replace the part
Most garden faults come down to one worn component. Below, both routes: the whole machine, or the single part — priced in your country, from shops that carry it.

The whole machine
When the repair costs more than the machine is worth. Mowers, chainsaws, robot mowers and generators, in your country’s shops.

The single part
Blades, chains, air filters, spark plugs, trimmer line, drive belts. We hold 7,762 parts with the manufacturer’s own code and list price — and show you what the same part costs elsewhere.
We earn a commission if you buy through these links. It costs you nothing extra, and it does not change what we write.
Start from the machine you own
Each family fails its own way. Pick yours and you land on its faults, its parts and the brands that make it.

Robot mowers
They run alone until they stop alone. Boundary wire, lifted-wheel errors, blade discs.

Riding mowers & tractors
Deck belts, PTO clutches, safety switches that cut the engine for no visible reason.

Walk-behind mowers
The machine that sat all winter and will not start in April. Carburettor, fuel, blade.

Chainsaws
Chain tension, bar wear, two-stroke mix gone stale, a clutch that drags at idle.
154 modelsOpen →
Trimmers & brushcutters
Line that will not feed, heads that unscrew themselves, shafts that stop turning.
147 modelsOpen →
Hedge trimmers
Blades that jam on green wood, gearboxes that run dry, triggers with two safeties.
112 modelsOpen →
Blowers & vacuums
Loss of air, impellers packed with leaves, batteries that fall off under load.
81 modelsOpen →
Generators
No output at the socket, AVR faults, low-oil cut-outs, dual-fuel changeover.
169 modelsOpen →
Pressure washers
Pressure that drops, pumps that pulse, unloader valves and blocked nozzles.
36 modelsOpen →
Multi-tools & pole saws
One powerhead, many attachments — and couplings that wear where they meet.
37 modelsOpen →
Chippers & shredders
Feed that stalls, knives that dull, chutes that block before the engine complains.

Half of garden repairs need four tools and twenty minutes. The other half need a spark tester before you take anything apart.
Find the part, then find what it costs
Type the manufacturer code or the name of the part. We show the original, the compatible one and the used one, side by side.

Before you open anything
- Pull the spark plug cap off. A mower can fire once on a warm cylinder and take a finger with it.
- On battery machines, take the battery out — not just off the switch.
- Blades and chains are sharp when blunt. Gloves, every time.
- Petrol vapour sits low and travels. Never drain a tank indoors.
- A generator running in a closed space kills with carbon monoxide, silently.
If the machine is under warranty, opening it can void it. Check before you unscrew.
How this page is built

- We read the manufacturer’s own pages and manuals — 310 of them so far, in English, Spanish, French and Italian — and we keep the source and the date we read it.
- Where the manufacturer gives a fault table, we keep its three columns: message, cause, action. We do not rewrite them.
- Where a remedy names a part, that part goes first in the parts section. 684 remedies name one.
- Where the manufacturer gives no remedy, we say so. We do not fill the gap.
- Prices come from the manufacturer’s own list, or from the shop — never from an aggregator, and never from memory.
Whose machines we have actually read
Not a list of logos. Every maker here has been read end to end, and the number beside it is how many of its machines we hold — with the families each one covers.

Fault-code pages for garden machines are being built. Until they exist there is no code box here: a search over an archive that does not yet exist would be a promise, not a tool.
Every line traces back to a document we read
We do not paraphrase forums. These are the sources behind the pages in this section, with the count we actually hold today.
- Husqvarna 310 official documents read: 170 operator’s manuals, 115 illustrated parts lists, 25 other. Plus 18 fault codes published by Husqvarna in five official languages — we quote those, we do not translate them.
- Champion Power Equipment 186 product pages with manuals and full exploded parts diagrams by serial number range — the level of detail most makers keep for dealers.
What we do not have yet, said plainly: STIHL, Stiga, EGO, Greenworks and the other makers in our index have not been read end to end. Where a fault is not documented by its maker, we say so on the page instead of filling the gap.
