The whole machine
Belts, pulleys and switches are cheap; a transmission is not. That is the line at which a riding mower stops being worth the bench time. Both new and used open in the shop for your country.
Riding mowers & tractors: the failures that repeat
Deck belts stretch and jump the idler. PTO clutches burn out slowly and then all at once. And the seat, brake and blade-engage switches are wired in series: one of them failing looks identical to the other two failing.
